Heida
Valais, Switzerland
Provins Valais
One of my first wine inquiries guided me approx. 20 years ago into the Valais. I got to know the wine culture of Valais as well as Madeleine Gay. In the meantime I visited vineyards all over the world, but it always attracts me back to the Valais.
Madeleine Gay is for me the “Grande Dame du Vin Suisse” and to create together with her a wine collection is an honor for me. The idea was to focus on traditional, not well known grape varieties which tells something about the tradition and history of the Valais and therefore also of Switzerland.
CHANDRA KURT Wine Writer & Wine Consultant
Heida (Paien) is deemed to be the “PEARL OF THE WINES FROM THE ALPES”. This name is used because of the fact, it is growing on an altitude till 1150 meters above sea level. Therefore it is the highest vine growing in Europe.
Heida is made of the correspondent grape which is very small and low-yielding but become in good years high Oechsle scale. It is not unusual that you can find Heida with 14% alcohol as the 2008 vintage. Heida offers a glowing golden yellow colour, to be sweet with nectarine, melon, and fleur de sel. On the plate seduce a delicate minerality and racy freshness the wine connoisseur.
