Introduction
Before the Pinino vineyard was acquired in 2003 by its current owners, the couples Andrea and Hannes Gamon and Silvia and Max Hernandez, it already had an eventful history, rich in tradition. It was already built in 1874 but only in the 1950ies, after it was taken over by an Italian industrialist, it was planted with Brunello vines.
To the north of Montalcino, embedded like a natural amphitheatre into the beautiful hillside of Montosoli sits the Pinino wine estate. This unique geography has made the region a favorite destination for the wealthy of Montalcino in the 18th century. The Pinino Estate was first built in 1874 by the notary Tito Costanti. Nearly 100 years later, in 1950, Pinino was inscribed to the Brunello winemakers cadastral register.
The Pinino wines are positively archetypal ambassodors of the Montalcino region: they are complex, elegant wines with a distinct, pronounced character, embossed by both, the juicy Sangioves grape and the meager soil. The special micro-climate and the different altitudes result in dense wines with mostly intense berry aromas. The deep red colour reflexes are also typical for the Tenuta Pinino wines.
Brunello di Montalcino was one of the first wines ever to receive the designation DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata). It was also the first Italian wine to receive the designation DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita).
