Introduction

Gagliole wines are made in the beautiful village of Castellina in Chianti (20km north of Siena). The vineyards are 500 meters above sea level where the Sangiovese slowly matures with a south-southwest exposure. Boutique estate of Gagliole dates back to 994 A.D. More recently Swiss lawyer and banker Dr. Thomas Bär and his wife Monika bought the 30ha estate (of which 8ha are vineyards) in 1990 and significant investment has taken place across the estate, not least in recruiting a highly capable team of professionals to manage the estate - including famous Italian enologist Mr. Stefano Chioccioli as the wine consultant. Grapes are handpicked (as opposed to the violent vine shaking tractors). Only the best grapes and berries (!) are then hand chosen for fermentation in oak vats and subsequently in French barriques.

  • Seriously excellent and handcrafted Chianti Classico, IGT Toscana – with the clear Bär Family goal to go to the top.
  • Human work is the most important influence in Gagliole estate – think of the “HERMÈS- hand stitched” philosophy.
  • Mr. Stefano Chioccioli, one of the best Italian oenologists is Gagliole’s wine consultant- since 5 years.
  • Modern vinification techniques with only handpicked grapes & oak vat fermentation- never seen such care!
  • Estate grown and bottled “IMBOTTIGLIATO ALL'ORIGINE DA GAGLIOLE”.
  • The Wine Spectator’s 94 and 96 point scores for the respective 2004 and 2005 vintages of Gagliole IGT, the 2006 is sure to be a huge hit when it reaches the wine lists ...WS 94 points.
